Did you get injured trying out your New Year’s Resolution?

It’s a new year and a good time to put a New Year’s resolution in action. One of the most common resolutions I hear about is getting to the gym and starting a new exercise regimen. Then, unfortunately, in a few short weeks those people are in my clinic injured.

Make sure your goals are attainable to avoid injury. Don’t try to run a marathon if you have never run a mile. Start with small steps and build your way to your fitness goal.

Many of my patients get injured shortly after starting their New Year’s resolution. This is no reason to give up on your goals. One of my goals here at Tidewater Chiropractic is to figure out what is causing your pain so I can get you better and back on track to completing your resolution.

When thinking about the new year and what you want to accomplish try SMART goals.

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Realistic

Timely

Setting goals that meet this criteria can help you accomplish what you have set out to do this year. You can ask your trainer "Are my goals SMART?"

Wellness visits are a great way to stay ahead of your training and avoid bigger injuries. Like a race car, it is important to make sure you keep your muscles and joints in the best shape so you can continue doing what you love.
