House work

There are some chores that come up every week without fail, such as cleaning, laundry and yard work. Here are a few of my tips to help save your back while you work on these weekly tasks.

1. Fold your laundry on a table.

Folding laundry out of a laundry basket or from a pile on the floor can cause you to be bent over or sitting with poor posture for long periods of time. By moving the clothes up to a table, you are able to work standing and with better posture, taking the strain off your back as you work.

2. Yard work.

Yard work can definitely take a toll on your body. Be mindful of any object you are lifting and work on proper lifting techniques. Find someone to help lift large objects to take some of the strain off your back and joint. And remember, never lift and twist at the same time.

3. Working on tasks close to the floor.

There are some tasks that can not be moved as you work on them, such as organizing a low cabinet or cleaning a bathtub. When you can’t bring the work to your level, try lowering yourself to a kneeling lunge to better stabilize yourself as you work.
